Brand New New Yorker on Location: Phoenix

a few weeks ago I took a long weekend trip to Phoenix, which surprising had a lot more things to do than I expected.  (what can I say, I live in New York and now think that anything outside of the city will just be Bore-Town central).  it actually sort of turned into almost a total college weekend - which I loved and surprisingly kind of needed.  :)

spent a night (possibly two - wasn't sure where we were the second night) at the bars in Scottsdale.  which, can I just say, had probably the biggest gathering of tools I've ever seen in one place.  it's like they rounded every one of them up from all across the state and transplanted them to one bar.  I don't even think my college bars had that many in one place...  however, the second night we went out was amazing.  not because of the bars or anything.  no.  it was amazing because I got to go for a ride in a Lamborghini - possibly a Gallardo Spyder.  not to sure on the type as I wasn't really concentrating on what model it was  ;)  also that night some apparent YouTube "celebrity" was there "singing."  I wasn't too impressed, actually I had never heard of the kid, but everyone else seemed to enjoy it...  you can check it out here: Keenan Cahill

we also went to a spring training game.  the Colorado Rockies v. ..... well they played somebody.  it was different in any other baseball game I've been to because it wasn't a huge field (actually we were apparently on an Indian Reservation).  and we didn't even sit in seats.  just got our beer and plopped ourselves on a grassy hill wherever we could find an open spot.  and the sunset we saw was beautiful.

the next day I got to see my Magic play (all the way in AZ!).  it was a really small arena, well at least compared to MSG and the Amway Arena in Orlando.  and the fans were probably some of the saddest basketball fans I've ever encountered.  in fact, I think they cheered harder for the people who throw out the free t-shirts than for the actual Suns.  afterwards we went to some sports bar for lunch and drinks.  it was such a welcomed relaxed afternoon.  sitting outside, which hasn't happened here in NYC probably since about August/September, and just chilling on the patio.  and I'm pretty sure we made best friends with the waitress who kept bringing us made up shots.  seriously, can't even begin to tell you what I drank.  to give you an idea though - one of the shots was called a Tiger Blood Sheen shot.  can you say winning?
